T. Griffin, Composer
Besides his two solo records, Tortuga and Light in the Aisles, and The Sea Won’t Take Long with Catherine McRae, T. Griffin has composed numerous soundtracks and scores for for film and theater. He has collaborated with filmmaker Jem Cohen (Fugazi: Instrument, Benjamin Smoke) several times, including an evenings of film projection and live music 8-Ball, Corner Pocket and Small Gauge Shotgun, soundtrack for the short films Blood Orange Sky (alongside Sparklehorse) and NYC Weights and Measures and music and remixes of godspeed you! black emperor for the Chain x 3 installation. He scored Pete Sillen's film Alice's House and Eric Martz' feature documentary, The Federation of Black Cowboys. Griffin has twice been commissioned by Kristin Marting and HERE theater to score evening-length dance/theater pieces, Dead Tech (2002) and Erendira (2003).

 

He collaborated with Vic Chesnutt on the recording of a Chesnutt song, "Foxx and Little Vic", which appears on the DVD of Jem Cohen and Pete Sillen's Benjamin Smoke along with a film of the sessions which took place at Griffin's studio.

He also put together and led a 9 piece band backing Vic for three New York shows celebrating the reissue of Chesnutt's first four CDs. In 2004 Griffin was commissioned by renowned avant-garde theater director Anne Bogart to write music and songs for an adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream set in the dust bowl, which premiered at San Jose Repertory and is scheduled to tour in 06, beginning at the Alabama Shakespeare festival in April. Currently he is recording soundtrack for two films: Esther Robinson's documentary about the mysterious 1966 disappearance of her uncle, Danny Williams, who was Andy Warhol's lover and designed the groundbreaking Velvet Underground / Exploding Plastic Inevitable lightshow and Daniel Lohaus' When I Came Home, a documentary following homeless veterans of the current conflict in Iraq. In October 2005 he participated in the Fusebox Festival in Ghent, Belgium and organized an expanded band to back Patti Smith for her concert which included members of A Silver Mount Zion, Fugazi, The Ex, The Hanged Up and Tom Verlaine. During the four day festival he and Catherine McRae performed as T. Griffin Coraline and he joined Guy Picciotto (Fugazi) and Eric Craven (Hanged Up) to back Tom Verlaine for a largely improvised set.
